March 2013 – Salem Pops concert – Mike unveils his latest orchestrations!

On March 2nd at the Elsinore Theatre in Salem OR Mike will debut some new works.  Here’s an excerpt from our recent newsletter where Mike talks about these new orchestral arrangements.

I’m just now wrapping up 4 new orchestral arrangements for this March 2nd date with the Salem Pops Orchestra. One of the pieces is the theme from the movie, Love Story. Since my 30th wedding anniversary is coming up March 12th, I thought I should write an arrangement for my honey! It’s very romantic! (I think she’ll like it!)

Also to be debuted is an original work called Fantasy, the title track of a new CD to be officially released this spring. This has some Argentinian undercurrents with a bit of tango going on. (You see the romantic theme going on?!)

And another piece I’m proud to debut is a waltz, Pretty Money titled 16 years ago by my then 5 year old daughter. Think Johann Strauss meets Michel LeGrand meets Mike Strickland!

Also newsworthy, I just returned from a 5 day tour of western Montana and Idaho doing 2 concerts and 5 workshops in the schools from elementary to high school. Great kids and lots of inspiration going around. Big fun! I love seeing the kids light up hearing it from a pro and hopefully challenging their musical potential. And a big thanks to all my hosts there on Flathead Lake!

We’ve got some new sheet music forthcoming… check it out!

If you would like to have me perform with your local orchestra, do an outreach program in your school or a community concert in your area, please contact us for more info. I love meeting new smiling faces and spreading the joy of music!

Till next time!

Mike
